All hallow's eve |
So last night was Halloween. I got a call from my friend, Lauran.
She was dressed as Tinkerbell & riding her bike downtown, alone, to
join in whatever festivities unfolded. Lauran is a teeny tiny little
woman, so I was impressed at her gusto to brave downtown alone,
dressed as a fairy.
Quite honestly, I was inspired!
I drove home, brushed off my Little Red Riding Hood costume (the
slutty version), stuck a bowl of candy outside for the trick-or-
treaters, and joined in the fun. What the hell? Why not?!
Driving into the madness was the best part of the night. Grown young
adults dressed as the Octo-mom, Devils, Angels, and Michael
Jackson...everywhere. About ten cave men and women approached all the
cars in traffic, grunting & chanting & dancing, yelling "FIRE! man
make FiRE!". Hahaha. They were all in!
Fully committed to the costume. And it was...fun!
If only their bosses could see them now- but nobody cared. There was
nothing serious or negative or stressful to worry about. It was all
about having a good time & being silly. It was quite refreshing to
see so many people show up for the party. It takes effort to dress
like a pirate, or the Jonas Brothers...and people still have the
"delight" in them to make it happen.
I loved it. I loved the energy. I loved the creativity of the
costumes. I loved the doorman, checking IDs for the dude dressed as
KISS. It is good to take advantage of nights like Halloween in
Austin, where we are free to be anything we want, dance like banshees
in the streets, and wear fishnet stockings without judgement from the
man dressed as Leslie across the bar.
