What a big week. Sunday was a benefit at Hill's Cafe for Hurricane Ike. Flew to El Paso on Monday and drove back with my sister, who now lives in Austin again! I've also been settling my house, booking shows for '09, and promoting the new album. Busy, but good stuff. Here are some other things that happened this week: Nelson wants to be a pumpkin for Halloween. Yes, I'm THAT girl. I know. I got to play piano on a track for Walt Wilkin's new album, Vigil. Then, we all went to Guerros to see the infamous Gimble family. Austin is still cool. This is a pic of Walt, Johnny Gimble, Dick Gimble, Emily Gimble. My best friend, Bree, turned 28. We celebrated on 6th street like the good ol days. But, I think I was still in bed by 11. I like this mirror. I wish I had money with which to buy it. And, yes, the temperature dropped below 80*, which means I broke out the Uggs.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK: Ray LaMontagne at Paramount. Wow. wow. wow. What an incredibly moving show. I cried. Thank god for artists like RL. I know you can't see it here, but I swear he's looking right at me!
My best friend Bree & I are on a quest. A quest to not be the OLDEST 27 yr olds in the world. We have somehow developed a habit of sitting in our respective homes, with our respective dogs, and our respective bottles of wine, talking to each other on the phone about how excited we are to watch TV. LAME. When did this happen? When did we quit having fun? Going out? Hooking up with random guys (well, Bree did...I think I did once, but it was so long ago I don't recall) -- There once was a day we could party all night and NOT be hungover for a week. We were conditioned. We were hot. Now, we are just tired -- trying to make a living, talking about the bags under our eyes, wearing our PINK jammie pants for as long as possible, avoiding sunlight & human contact. A big night out these days means going to buy the new mascara mentioned on Oprah. And for what? Work ourselves to death, just to feel guilty about blowing what little money is made on a shopping spree at Walgreens? Is THAT the zenith of 27?? Surely not. It can't be. Don't get me wrong, I love a Walgreens -- but that can't be the highlight of life...not yet anyway. We are in our late 20s, damnit. We still have time to do really irresponsible things, right? Right. Sex, drugs, rock n roll....or just a chai tea latte at Halcyon would be a start. ready? break.
I've been moving all week, with the intention of throwing away 1/2 the useless junk accumulated over the past 27 yrs. Sadly, I got too busy with the cd release so I just packed it all and moved it, where everything will remain in boxes, probably until I move again, and the circle keeps circling. Silly me, didn't think to call Time Warner before the move, so I'm stuck without cable & Internet until Tuesday. It's like 1992...no such thing as 'wi-fi' or DVR. I'm highly primitive these days.
It's been a month since the greatest day of my life...here is a pic from that day of me & my friend Chrissy, drinking a beer at a random pub in England. love this picture. I'll post some pics from the CD release soon...
I'm still buzzing from the cd release event last night. One World Theatre - wow. What a cool place. The band was spot on (Greg Whitfield, Walt Wilkins, Tina Wilkins, Ray Rodriguez, Rob Albertson, Jim Korioth, and a special appearance by Bill Small), the crowd was such a wonderful listening room. I'm flying high right now. Yay for our little family, it was a big night. pictures and video coming soon.
